Jonathan Papp
Artistic Director
Jonathan Papp studied at the Royal Academy of Music, with Jean Anderson, where he won prizes for
piano accompaniment, solo playing and chamber music, and was appointed the Hodgson Fellow for
piano and an Associate of the Royal Academy.
He undertook postgraduate studies with Bruno Canino in Milan and Geoffrey Parsons in London.
He has worked on the staff of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, for the Royal Opera House,
the Walton Foundation in Ischia and for the Tosti Institute in Ortona. He has given Masterclasses at
the Royal Opera House and abroad, including New Zealand.
Jonathan is greatly in demand as a coach and accompanist around the world, having shared recitals
with Sir Thomas Allen, Cheryl Barker, Ian Bostridge, Sophie Daneman, Susan Gritton, Katarina
Karneus, Christopher Maltman, Amanda Roocroft, Sergei Leiferkus, Carolyn Sampson, Dame Kiri Te
Kanawa, Marina Poplavskaya, Moray Welsh and Catherine Wyn-Rogers, amongst others.
He has made radio and television broadcasts in the U.K. and abroad with such artists as Dame Kiri
and Dmitri Hvorostovsky, and recently recorded with Dame Kiri for EMI.
Recitals this season have included concerts in Norway and Sweden, such as the Bjorling Festival
with Tito Beltran.
This season includes recitals with Carolyn Sampson, Dimitri Korchak, Marina Poplavskaya, Kinga
Dobay, and Elena Prokina, as well as a recital tour of Scotland with Moray Welsh.
Jonathan Papp is currently a member of the teaching staff of the Vocal Faculty and the Opera School
at the Royal Academy of Music.

Emanuela ‘Pepi’ Ferrari
Director of Studies – Italian language and repertoire coach
Born and raised in Modena, in a family where two members had been opera singers and Bel Canto
was alive, Emanuela Ferrari is on the Faculty of the Royal Academy of Music, where she teaches
Italian language and repertoire interpretation classes.
She taught languages and literature at the University of Natal, in South Africa, where she also wrote
articles for literary publications, and translated and edited various works.
She was organiser and language coach of the summer courses for singers in Ortona, in collaboration
with the Tosti Institute, 1997-2001.
She also works as consultant language coach with many singers, groups and organisations.

Paolo Speca
Principal Vocal coach
Paolo Speca is Head of the Vocal Faculty at the Conservatoire of Pescara in Italy.
As a baritone he has performed extensively in Italy and abroad, both in opera and recital.
Since 1985 he has been the Artistic Director of the choral group Associazione Musicale Antonio
Zaccario da Teramo, which has presented many opera productions and released a number of notable
recordings.

Corradina Caporello
Italian Diction and Language coach
Born in Rome, Corradina Caporello, is currently on the faculty of the Juilliard and Curtis Schools of
Music in the United States.
She has taught Italian language and literature at Columbia University, has coached Italian operas in
the United States, Canada, Italy, Israel, and China, and has taught master classes in Taiwan, Japan,
and Mexico, as well as in the United States. She is a member of the board of directors of the Licia
Albanese-Puccini Foundation.

Shirley Keane
Drama coach
Trained both in theatre and as an opera singer, Shirley Keane is a drama director whose performing
experience ranges from traditional and contemporary opera roles, oratorio and mainstream theatre.
She has produced and performed in concerts all over Europe and is the founder and artistic director
of the London-based East End Opera, which creates new opera through collaborative workshops
with young singers and composers.
She also acts as a mentor and advisor to young musicians on the Live Music Now scheme.
